FMO with Rolf Daalder
Rolf Daalder, Corporate Director ICT and Facility Services at FMO since October 2007, is continuously aiming for improvements in technology and sustainability
“For the companies we work with, integrating sustainability into their core business makes sound business sense.”
Rolf Daalder & Sustainability
I strongly believe that businesses with an incorporated strategy for sustainability, who embrace good corporate governance and best practices, enjoy stronger financial results and long-term viability. For me, sustainability is synonymous with technological improvements and cost savings, resulting in a profitable business. Improvements to sustainability performance and financial returns go hand-in-hand.
FMO & Sustainability:
FMO supports sustainable private sector growth in developing and emerging markets by investing in ambitious entrepreneurs. We believe that a strong private sector leads to economic and social development, empowering people to employ their skills and improve their quality of life. FMO focuses on three sectors that have high development impact: financial institutions, energy, and agribusiness, food & water. We believe that long-term profit and viability must go hand in hand with enduring economic and social impact.
We invest with the motive that ESG (sustainable environmental, social and governance business practices) is the solution in a world facing a surging population and increased consumption. We team up with clients and partners that share this vision. As a bank, FMO strives to achieve strong financial results and as employees, we are driven about our achievements reaching beyond profit. FMO aims to achieve optimal environmental impact, currently achieving a ‘climate neutral’ rating. For more info visit: http://www.fmo.nl/sustainability
FMO & the KLM corporate biofuel programme
As a frequent KLM-flyer, we’re very interested in lowering our footprint from business travel. Especially as the largest part of our organization’s CO2 emissions come from flying: mostly air travel to and from client meetings abroad and also through our own clients’ impact. That’s why we’re cutting down on our business trips by plane, but being an international organization it’s not realistic to stop flying completely.
Therefore we decided to join the KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme. This allows us to partly fly on biofuel; a great way to reduce our footprint and at the same time contribute to the development of this innovative market. Besides the programme we also compensate for our CO2 emissions through the Climate Neutral Group.
Expectations for 2015
I hope and expect that bio jet fuel will become a commodity instead of a niche because the aviation industry does not have another green alternative.
Favorite destination on biofuel?
Nepal is a great destination! We have just financed a hydro project over there, creating more than 1000 jobs and providing green electricity to 3 million people. More information is to be found here.
