Accountable Manager, Deputy COO & Executive Vice President Flight Operations, Captain Boeing 737, Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM)

Michiel van Dorst was appointed Accountable Manager & Deputy COO in 2011 and Executive Vice President KLM Flight Operations in October 2007. In this position he is responsible for an integrated Flight Operations policy, including realization of the flight operations schedule, with an emphasis on safety, quality, staff, air traffic management, strategy and costs. He is the Postholder Flight Operations & Crew Training and since 2010 he is a member of the Executive Committee. Apart from this Van Dorst is Captain Boeing 737.

Van Dorst began his career with KLM in 1992 as airline pilot. From 1996 – 2003 he also worked as flight instructor, combining both positions.

From 2003 – 2005 he was Deputy Vice President Air Traffic Management. In 2005 he occupied the position of Operations Manager B737 and from 2006 to 2007 he was Vice President Air Traffic Management.

From 1999 to 2003 Van Dorst was freelance instructor Boeing 737 for CAE Flight Crew Training in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. He was also lecturer for the Accountancy & Information Management Department of the University of Amsterdam in 2002.  

Van Dorst was a member of the Advisory Committee Air Transport NLR from 2006 to 2010.

Michiel van Dorst was born on 10 December 1969. He studied at the National Aviation Academy. He has a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Amsterdam.
