SkyNRG Embarks on 10-Year Partnership with APG

SKYNRG EMBARKS ON 10-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH APG, BOLSTERING THE FIRM’S GROWING SUSTAINABILITY AMBITIONS

  • Dutch firm APG became the latest member of SkyNRG’s Board Now program with a bold 10-year commitment
  • Through the partnership, the firm will be tackling their emissions from business travel and contribute to the development of the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market
  • APG is among the first pension providers to make such commitments to sustainable aviation fuel in Europe, and the first pension provider to join Board Now

Amsterdam, February 17th, 2022 – APG became the latest member of SkyNRG’s Board Now program today, which sees the Dutch pension provider committing to a 10-year SAF partnership. The partnership is the latest addition to APG’s continuous work on responsible investing for a more sustainable future, in line with their ESG criteria.

The Dutch firm’s sustainability ambitions have been sharpened in recent years with its mission to play an active role in the Netherlands’ sustainability transition, with a sustainability strategy focusing on responsible investing, sustainable and inclusive business operations, and contributing to a more financially fit society.

In line with that sustainability strategy, the firm’s sustainability ambitions have now crystallized into a 10-year partnership with SkyNRG’s Board Now program, which enables corporates to move beyond compensation and reduce their business travel footprint within the aviation sector with SAF. Business travel emissions make up an important part of Scope 3 emissions for corporate companies in the finance or investment sectors. SAF plays a key role in addressing these emissions, as it can result in an up to 85% CO2 emission reduction, depending on which feedstock and technology pathway has been used. Through this partnership, APG will be offtaking 500 metric tonnes per year and achieving a yearly CO2 reduction of 1600 metric tonnes to address their business travel emissions.

By making a long-term commitment to Board Now, which is the only program of its kind to enable new production capacity for SAF, APG will also be further developing the SAF market by signaling demand, which can create future production capacity.

”This strong commitment by APG is a notable example of how aligned goals between sustainable finance and operations can form solid steps towards climate commitments. We are convinced that this inspires more climate action and similar commitments from other corporates as well,’’ said Theye Veen, Managing Director, SkyNRG.

”Especially when it comes to our unlisted investments, there are times we need to know the local situation well. In these cases, online or video links can miss essential information, making it vital that we be there physically. In the cases that travel is necessary, an investment that contributes to emission reduction on a larger scale – forestry, for example – the decision to take the plane must be a conscious one, accounting for sustainability. Becoming a partner in SkyNRG’s Board Now program takes this one step further, allowing us to address our emissions in-sector,” said Ronald Wuijster, Executive Board Member at APG.

APG is the first pension provider in the Board Now program, joining as a Leader with a significant investment in SAF. Other members in the Leader tier include Microsoft, SkyScanner, Boston Consulting Group, Bank of America and Etraveli Group.
